Babesia microti is an obligate intra-erythrocytic
protozoan transmitted by the same tick vectors that are responsible for the transmission of Lyme disease and HGE, causing flu-like symptoms as well as a
malaria-like illness. Substrate Slides are prepared with
infected mouse or hamster erythrocytes, where the merozoites are visible
as compact inclusions by IFA staining.
